In the family wins a trip to New York City for Muriel to perform her sitar at Radio City Music Hall. However, they are tricked by a giant cockroach named Schwick, who sends Courage on a dangerous "errand" to retrieve a mysterious package. The episode is famous for its gritty, noir-inspired atmosphere and the terrifying "King Ghidorah" or "exorcist girl" jump-scare behind one of the doors Courage opens. Key Themes:

In the episode a small, green Chihuahua medium named Shirley the Medium visits Nowhere. After being treated unkindly by Eustace, she places a hex on him that manifests as a dark, personal storm cloud that rains on him constantly. To break the curse, Courage must find a way to get Eustace to show genuine kindness, which ultimately happens through a shared moment of vulnerability involving Eustace’s childhood memories.

In both segments, Courage faces supernatural threats and physical peril specifically to protect Muriel’s happiness and safety.

"The Big Stinkin’ City" uses live-action footage and surreal backgrounds to make the city feel overwhelming and alien compared to the emptiness of Nowhere.

Shirley’s curse isn't about punishment, but about forcing Eustace to find the "heart" he hides under his bitterness.
