A former Meta software engineer based in London is suspected of designing a specialized program to bypass security checks and access private user content. While initially reported as private images, the breach involves large-scale unauthorized access to personal data, often discussed in technical communities as a potential data leak.

The engineer allegedly created a custom script to circumvent Meta’s internal detection systems, allowing him to download approximately 30,000 files without alerting the company's security team.

The Metropolitan Police's Cybercrime Unit arrested a man in his 30s in November 2025 following a referral from the FBI. The suspect was released on bail and is scheduled to report to police in May 2026. Related Data Resources
