On-screen, his character was now waist-deep in the digital murk. Something massive and pale shifted beneath the surface. It wasn't a fish. It was a collection of textures that shouldn't exist—stretched, unrendered skin and too many eyes.

He reached for the power cord, but his hand froze. From the darkness of his speakers, a wet, heavy splash echoed—not from the game, but from the corner of the room. The "Build" wasn't finished with him yet.
