Joe is attempting to live a quiet life, avoiding his past obsessions and "taking a holiday" from murder. He teaches at a posh university and lives in a flat with a view of his neighbor, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), and her boyfriend, Malcolm.

Following a night of heavy drinking and absinthe at an exclusive club, Joe wakes up in his apartment with no memory of the night's final hours. To his horror, he finds Malcolm’s dead body on his kitchen table.
