The story follows Chris Thorne (Chevy Chase), a wealthy financial publisher, and Diane Lightson ( Demi Moore ), a lawyer, who take a scenic detour through a backwater New Jersey town called Valkenvania. After running a stop sign, they are arrested by a local cop (John Candy) and brought before the 106-year-old, nightmarish Judge Alvin Valkenheiser (Dan Aykroyd).
