In a world where 113 "Specials" born after a 1969 Illinois flash are dying in 2009, their powers redistribute to the survivors, increasing their burden. Artie Ganz and Matthew Bright, two of the last surviving Specials, navigate this fading, hunted existence while realizing their powers are becoming too great to bear. They confront their impending extinction, deciding to accept their fate as the "Compendium" of their lives closes and their powers return to the sky.
