The Joyful Resilience of "Top of the World" In the landscape of modern film soundtracks, few songs capture the essence of pure, unadulterated optimism as effectively as from the Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile OST. Performed by Shawn Mendes, the track serves as more than just a musical backdrop; it is the emotional heartbeat of a story centered on finding one’s voice and belonging. Within the context of the film, the song acts as a bridge. It connects the whimsical world of a singing reptile with the grounded, often stressful reality of urban life. It serves as a reminder that joy is a choice and a communal effort. When the song hits its crescendo, it invites the audience to share in that same sense of liberation Lyle feels. "Top of the World" stands out as a high point in the Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile soundtrack because it transcends the "movie song" trope. It is an anthem of resilience and a musical manifestation of what happens when we step out of the shadows. It leaves the listener—much like the characters—feeling a little lighter and a lot more courageous. When the song hits its crescendo, it invites

Lyrically, "Top of the World" explores the power of perspective. The refrain isn't just about physical height or success; it’s about the psychological shift that occurs when you finally feel seen and accepted. For Lyle, being on the "top of the world" is a metaphor for the safety and love he finds with the Primm family. It speaks to a universal human (and crocodile) desire: the need to find a place where our "true colors" aren't just tolerated, but celebrated. Impact on the Narrative

The song is built on a foundation of driving percussion and bright, anthemic melodies. Its production mirrors the vibrant energy of New York City, where the film is set. From the opening notes, the track establishes a sense of momentum, reflecting Lyle’s transition from a hidden, silent creature to a confident performer. Mendes’ vocal delivery—balancing vulnerability with soaring power—perfectly encapsulates the "larger-than-life" feeling of overcoming fear. Lyrical Themes: Perspective and Belonging

  1. several years ago I started with a 22 minute guided meditation. I did the same thing you did, Sarah. I rolled out of bed, went to my couch and sometimes fell asleep during the 22 minutes but eventually I stayed awake. I decided in the beginning I would do it for 21 days to form a habit. It only took a couple weeks before I noticed I was feeling something different. Upon thinking, I realized I felt content like everything was OK no matter what. I don’t meditate every day anymore but hopefully this will inspire me. I was feeling out of sorts this morning so I meditated for eight minutes. I was a new person at the end of the meditation, and the rest of my day has been great! ❤️
