Much of the film’s charm comes from the chemistry between Cage and Perlman, whose banter provides a "buddy-cop" feel amidst the gloom.

Upon returning home, the knights find their homeland ravaged by the Black Death. They are apprehended and tasked by a dying Cardinal (Christopher Lee) with a final mission: escorting a young woman (Claire Foy), accused of being a witch and causing the plague, to a remote monastery. There, monks possess an ancient ritual capable of neutralizing her powers and ending the pestilence.

Expect swordplay, possessed wolves, and a CGI-heavy climactic battle that shifts the film from a psychological mystery into full-blown fantasy horror.
